Hi guys. Quick question about closed circuit jacks with a tip shunt. If I want the shunt to connect to ground, and the sleeve is connected to ground, can I just connect the shunt lug to the sleeve lug? (Rather than running a separate wire from the shunt to the common ground point.) In other words, is it a problem if the shunt is connected to the sleeve when a plug is inserted? Considering that the shunt will just be a dead end at that point, it doesn't seem like this would be a problem.

Or better, post your particular switch.. :icon_wink:

Hi Antonis. I'm using this switch, which, according to the datasheet, is III: Single Closed Circuit (J4).

Exactly! I think your logic is sound.

You can connect the shunt to the sleeve, since that's a convenient ground connection. And when there's a jack in it, that shunt connection now doesn't touch anything else, so it doesn't matter. Just like you said.
