Possible alternate to rack & pinion pots such as wah and volume pedals. Not cheap, simple, rated for long use.

Darn Mouser links hard to share and won't find all variants.

i have looked into using them for wah pedals after having used one in school for a telescope control / aim unit. they are extremely expensive. it would be applicable for expensive custom wah's not for el-cheap-o diy projects.

friendly reminder: all holes are positive and have negative weight, despite not being there.

Wah pots are also expensive. I'm tempted

Yes, most values are $23. However a Dunlop Cry Baby Hot Potz II is $25?? And that still needs a pinion and a rack and probably a pinion tension spring/clip. The TT Electronics 404 could just be propped up under a treadle. There is a slight scrub b/c the treadle moves in an arc while the plunger is linear. But a little slack (felt) under a loosely mounted plunger body would allow self-alignment; or modern slick plastic might not feel scruby.

Since the only ready-to-stomp form of rack and pinion is a whole or for-parts pedal, the plunger may be cheaper un-less you have been hoarding wahs under the bed. (Ah, the HotPotz comes-with pinion, but no rack.)

Maybe we can turn this into the new 3PDT stomp switch, enough projects and the price will drop to $5  ;D

$25 is not a lot compared to a wah pot, but how to make/use a shell for it? How to attach it to anything? What are those ruts cut into it, does it have a proprietary mount like a fancy microphone? It looks like it's made for p2p wiring, odd little thing. Definitely seems like something someone around here should mess with. It's a robotics thing yeah?

"...and weird on top!"

i recognize its cheaper than a wah pot, but compared to a simple 15mm or 20mm slider pot, which can be easily converted to do the same function, its a 2000% price difference.
