DIY Dood

OK, I mean REALLY my first build. I "crafted" this (note the quotes) when I was 14. That was a long time ago.  Just found it in the archives while disposing of several decades of stored goods. Photos below of this work of art.

It's a fuzz. I couldn't afford a real fuzz like the "all the real players were using a" Big Muff Pi back then. So to start I bought an LPB1 (they were cheap) and added two silicon clipping diodes with a pot to create fuzz. I got the idea for the clipping from an article in Popular Science about building your own fuzz.

That didn't quite hit the spot, so I bought a second LPB1 later to up the drive. The original LPB1 was wired point-to-point with no board of any sort. Just components in a messy spider web. So I created a circuit board with an etching kit from Rat Shack. Combined the LPB's in series. Went through a couple revisions.

Anyway, here it is. Couldn't afford a real pedal box so I used a surface mount electrical supply box. Was painted a little nicer in the day and named the LPB 3. And, it actually worked. But it looks like I must have pulled the switch out at some point, used the knobs elsewhere... and there are lots of dead ends on the board. Can't recall why or if they matter.

It still passes a signal when powered up, but it doesn't do anything to it. So, I'll have to start digging through it. Be nice to see the LPB1's do something again.

Interesting.  Pink Jimi did a similar thing some years ago: the Lardacious Phat Bastard.  More or less (IIRC) an LPB-1 with clipping diodes feeding into a second LPB-1.

Cool... I'll have to check that out as I resurrect mine from the grave.

Here's the thread from 2012.  Stupid pedal trickTM demo video here.
