Someone at diystompboxes should buy up an old tube factory and start making what we need.  Somebody must have the vacuum pumps and the various bits of metal-bending machinery somewhere.  It wouldn't be that much more expensive than a semiconductor foundry.

Mike Mathews did that. Russian gangsters laid siege to the factory and his finances. Different accent same story if we tried it in Bulgaria or China. No, the vacuum pump systems are not commonplace.

FWIW someone tried to re-start the UK Blackburn(?) tube operation, moved massive machines in, and went silent.

We had nice tube factory in Niš, Serbia (Ei tubes), but it was sold to some Bulgarian "businessman" who scraped it all... Now only the walls are left.

At the end of the day, JJ Tubes have never steered me wrong. They have a pretty broad selection and they are pretty rugged, if not a little sensitive to voltages.

Recessions/depressions have a way of killing off businesses making "obsolete" products that need a lot of effort to keep going.  I worry sometimes what the next big one might do to tube production...
