Hello - I would like to build a transistor based preamp / overdrive, and I'm trying to find a schematic I came across a few weeks ago. I've searched for it for a few hours and no luck finding it so far.

The schematic is for a transistor-based OD, where the author used a BJT (Q1) in conjunction with a MOSFET (Q2) to emulate a preamp tube. It was the first time I had seen two different transistors paired up (apart from the ROG peppermill) in that configuration. The author mentioned something about the interaction of those particular transistors more closely emulated some characteristic of a tube amp. I wish I could remember what exactly it was though.

I ask because I put a BJT boost in front of a jfet-based OD pedal recently and was staggered by how good the cleanup was. I'd like to build a discreet "amp in a box" as an always-on preamp and having that touch sensitivity and cleanup is important to me. If I'm hallucinating the article and the schematic doesn't exist, I'll figure something else out. Just figured I would post and ask before moving on.
