Klon input volume mod

Hi there,

I have a Klon clone. I prefer to use it either clean or mostly clean. But, I like the increased midrange emphasis as you turn up the gain. My solution to keeping it clean is to back off on my guitar volume knob. I was wondering, if I were to insert an input volume control on the pedal itself (or likely on a kit version of the pedal, as the Klone I have is SMD), where in the circuit would it go? Any thoughts on potentiometer value?

Thank you!  :)

Welcome to the forum.

I think the answer depends on what you're trying to achieve. If you merely want to keep the guitar volume full up, then put the pot at the input of the pedal, make it the same value that you have in the guitar and include any treble bleed cap fitted to the guitar volume. Will this give you exactly the same effect as using the guitar? That will depend on how the 2 pots interact with each other, the final input impedance and whether you're using the input buffer on the Klone (not all have them) but it should be a good starting point.

Thanks! My concern is not messing with the input impedance. I would probably be adding this to a GGG kit or something along those lines.

You can replace input buffer bias resistor (1M) with a pot..

Lug3 to input cap - Wiper to non-inverting input  - Lug1 to +4.5V
