Hi,

I don't have the details to elaborate much further, but I received an email from UK distributor Rapid Online this week explaining the following:

"Hammond and Camdenboss have confirmed that they are increasing prices at the start of next month (November) to all customers due to current market conditions."

I assume this applies internationally (though Britain is falling to bits in its own special way at the moment). I'll try to find out just how much things have gone up by. If anyone already knows the scoop, please share!

I've been using pre-drilled, pre-finished enclosures from Tayda. Best bang for the buck around and they do custom drilling in addition to the standard PedalPCB offerings.

Raw steel in beams has gone up with just less than 100% this year, steel plates with more than 100%. I work in a steel construction and production company
And that is just steel.

"Market Conditions" covers a lot of ground.

As Steven says, many metals are going nuts. But the Hammond die-cast boxes are largely Zinc (some Al, perhaps a taste of Cu). Price of Zinc actually topped-out in Jan 2018 and has been lower since. Was falling right into the start of pandemic. It is up significantly now but not as high as 3 years ago.

The forecast price over the next decade is not very exciting:

Of course Hammond also has (I assume) labor shortages and delivery delays, and long-term industrial contracts they can't jack whereas the small-box market is not unified or truly cost-crunched so they take their income where they can.

I thought the boxes we use are about 80% Al and only about 3% Zn.  I could be wrong, of course.

Technical difficulties.  Please stand by.

Shipping costs are adding to the price of everything right now, from what I gather.  Even if the raw materials haven't increased, still gotta move 'em around.

Ah.

"Aluminium prices surged to an over 10-year high in early September, as news of a coup in top bauxite producer Guinea sparked supply concerns. Aluminum traded at USD 2,916 per metric ton on 10 September, which was up 13.5% from the same day in the previous month. Moreover, the price was 47.7% higher on a year-to-date basis and was up 66.4% from the same day a year ago. Prices for aluminium continued to rally in recent weeks, supported by news of sizable production curbs in the Guangxi region in China—the leading aluminium-producing country—in a bid to cut down on energy consumption and emissions."

For those unaware, Aluminium production is very power hungry.

Need another scrap drive!

In reverse - scrap planes for enclosures!

I try to get Eddystone which have always been about 70% cheaper despite being marketed by Hammond & I can't find anything wrong with them and they have that cool lighthouse symbol inside that for fun you can line an LED up to (you know its there).
