I just finished building a klone via the Sabrotone layout: https://www.sabrotone.com/klon-centaur-build-finished/

My issue is that my signal sounds a bit dark to me compared to other Klones. The compression seems  flat and dull, not as much transparency or midrange sparkle as there should be.

I've built this twice, using as many "stock" parts as I could find. I.e. Panasonic ECQ film caps, SU/M series electros, same chips, metal/carbon fiim per the original. I've socketed various 1N34a's, Bat41....same result.

Voltages are all good. Wondering if the layout is the issue? I had to use a few higher rated film caps, maybe this is has an effect?

Or am I not using the right magic fairy dust?  :o

Picture probably isn't very helpful, it's sort of nest

I built his Workhorse version, and it is very good and sat on my board for many years. I'd suggest you check for correct part values and solder bridges on your build.

Everything seems to be correct.  Like I said I've built twice. Both work fine they're just lacking that magical transparency and mid range harmonics my others Klones have. It's very close but not quite.

I'm using all the same values/parts as my AF2 (besides a few non-Panasonic's) still missing something sonically to my ears.

Even my pedal monsters Klone jr, which uses different types of components than AF2 or the original sounds more Klon than my Klone

Not sure where I went wrong   ???

I'll add it doesn't sound as smooth and musical, a bit more nasally/thin. More on the Dist+/DOD250 side.
