i stand corrected, thanks, paul.

i don't know any of this EE stuff still cuz i'm a dullard of a dolt, but i figured at the output of the jelly bean there may be enough signal to make the cap mess up.

i know in a tube circuit, a reversed cap will heat up and EXPLODE. don't ask me how i learned this one, but just to be sure, i've repeated it a couple time over the years. not only does it let the magick smoke out, but it gives ya a few yards of thin foil strips to play with and a bunch of nasty stinky toxic little fibers all over everything ;)

i love the smell of the magic smoke, i recently put a weird preamp IC 180 degrees wrong in a socket and the Vcc and Vee were switcharoo'd. IC magic smoke smells the best. i also hate it when the magic vacuum leaks out of a tube, happened to me with an old Phillips PCC83 a few days ago (fortunately, the heater was dead already, so no loss but a display piece)

cheers
friendly reminder: all holes are positive and have negative weight, despite not being there.

 had someone bring me an old fender 100 watter bassman. needed new tubes.
so replaced 'em, ended up with a quad of matched old blackplates; still pretty good shape.
they were on my bench. i dropped something. barely touched the top of one.

CHINK.

little tiny freeking hole. one dead tube. arrrrrrrgh....

AAAAAAHHHHHHH!!!!!!   :o :( ::) ??? >:( ;)

I recall with my first tube amp, I couldn't get the power tubes out (wanted to put in some BETTER, HOTTER tubes eer-umm)..so I twisted one. The key is still locked in that amp's socket - can't get to it to remove it, HRDxe with the PCB legs obstructing the socket. And the 6L6 got ruined.  Meh.

I put aluminum foil inside the 3d printed case and now it sounds awesome, there is almost no buzz anymore. Thanks for the help.

It's always nice to hear about a problem being solved.  The gain of 501 maximum was a guarantee that there would be a noise problem to be solved and shielding is one of the things you have to do if you want that level of gain.
