no sound on my DIY Duocast

Hi Guys, I'm hopping that you can help me find out what's wrong with my newly built Duocast from PedalPCB (bought from Musikding)
To put it simply, when I plug the guitar and power there is no sound coming out whatsoever (on and off) even though the LEDs work when I switched on.
Can't find where the problem is from. I doubled checked the wiring and it seems to follow the wiring diagram and I didn't see any wires or solders touching...

This is my 3 pedal build and the 2 first work nicely straight away so it a bit frustrating but it may be a good occasion to learn more about electronics since I really don't know much (yet).

Btw, the only mod I made was to wires the 2 pots, LED and switch so it'd fit into the enclosure.

Here are some pictures of the pedal. It is a little messy mostly with the wires but I hope you guys can spot out the problem or give me some advises on how to find it

Hi & Welcome.. :icon_wink:

1st guess: Reverse IN-OUT plugs..

edit: Hi to Sir Mike, also..

Second guess, I'm Short on an answer.
(Make sure your soldering is where it should be and not where it shouldn't. )
Sure you will get it working.

Do you know what you're doing?

can't see the jacks, suspicious that. When no sound at all the problem is either jack or footswitch. Ground where signal should be...?

I've checked it several times and it seems to be plugged alright (but I may be wrong...)

Wat could be wrong with the jacks? I plugged the black ground wire to the plate that goes to the center of the jack and the red to the tip. I believe that this it correct, isn't it?

idy

I am looking closer and can see them a little bit, but what could be wrong with the jacks: We would confirm that black (and black is ground?) goes to sleeve and hot goes to tip, yes. That grounds really are hooked up to circuit ground/power ground. That nothing is contacting enclosure (like the tip of the jack.) That there isn't a bad solder joint on jack. That one terminal in a jack wasn't bent during assembly and isn't now touching tip. That you haven't used the wrong terminal of a "N.C." switching jack ( I think the kind you used.)

in the photo that show the switches they are blurry, other things near by more in focus. Here also a bit of solder in the wrong place and no sound.

It is nearly dead certain that your problem is either switch or jack. I can't see one to those things...So I ask.

idy

I think the switch with the green jumpers is the bypass. Very hard to see what exactly is going on. Like I said, one bit of solder touching where it shouldn't, one cold solder joint (that looks perfect even under a magnifying glass) and you would have this exact problem.

Like so many things on this forum, it may include
...ask me how I know!

check carefully the value of R14 - it should be 15k, it appears to be 150k. also please always post a link to the build docs, for our poor tired old eyes. and voltages.

alright, so after checking properly the jack plugs I've eventually found out the proplem. There is 3 plates on the plug, 1 obviously going to the ground and the 2 other seemed to be linked to each other but no... After trying swapping the connection to the other plate on each plug everything was working well.

Thank you guys so much for helping me narrowing down the issue to this otherwise I may have spent lots of time not finding the problem!
