Reducing pot value by wiring parallel resistor

I'm on my iphone so I may have missed something, but why don't you buy a 250k pot? Isn't it easier to mess with the pot's taper than its resistance?

I just made orders from 3 different places for all of my upcoming projects and somehow missed ordering any 250k pots this was the only one I needed.   Didn't want to pay 5$ for shipping for one part.   I ended up just ordering one along with some other pots To make spending the shipping money worth it.   There's no where near me to get a smooth shaft 16mm base 15mm shaft 6.35mm pot.

Times have changed, in the 1980s I lived in Edmonton (north London UK) where there were 3 component suppliers within 10 minutes walk from my home - all closed by 1992! Pot size was and still is irrelevant to me - I like big enclosures!!
