Hello and welcome,
What do you not like about it? I'm afraid you first have to build it and tell us

what disturbes you the way it sounds.

I could tell you ,replace D1 and D2 with germanium diodes, but then you eventually

bought them additionally to the kit and don't like them .

Even the entire circuit may not be what you expected ,but you have to build it first

to find out. Unfortunately it is not that simple.

                           Kind regards

                           Jean-Marie
Keep on soldering!

Welcome to the forum! That schematic is based on the boss DS1, so you should be able to find hundreds of examples of mods for it, along with videos of what those mods might sound like.

+1 what r080 said. Looking for DS-1 mods online and seeing what you like the sound of seems like a good idea and a good place to start. But definitely build it first. Until you've played with it a bit, you won't really know what you think it's missing, if anything.

Here is a doc listing most of the popular  DS-1 mods :

I can recommend the "BRETT MILLER DS-1 “MONDO-MIJ” MOD" p.18

Crossover/hard clipping distortion toggleswitch, and an extra potentiometer to blend between led clipping and the clipping diodes selected by the toggle... How could you say no ?

It's a bit sophisticated, but it's great. You can find a substitute for the 2N3859, like 2n3904 for exemple.
"One Cannot derogate, by particular conventions, from the Laws which relate to public Order and good Morals." Article 6 of the Civil Code.
"We must not confuse what we are and what society has made of us." Theodor W. Adorno.
