Roland Double Beat - First in chain kinda thing?

i built up one of these and wonder if it needs to be in the front of the chain ala fuzz face? it seems to sound much better at the front but why? it has silicon transisters but looks similar to a fuzz face. is it because of the variable caps at the front? is this one of those impedance things i still dont understand?

Yes, same issues as a Fuzz Face. Have you tried turning down the INPUT control a bit, does that help?
