OT Mic to Line converter for mini disc?

Uh sorry about the OT subject but if it helps I it is for recording guitars with effects :O)
Need to make a device that will boost a mic signal into line level territory.
I don't know too much about this except that this is what I need to be able to use this darn mini disc I paid too much for.
Any ideas?
Can I just put a booster in front?
ANy better ways?
