Sound when off....barely any when on

So I got this pedal kit for a fuzz face type circuit....built it, it works...now I am building my own without the kit, from scratch for practice... everything is done right on the circuit itself.....the only thing I can think of being wrong is how I wired up the switch. I followed a guide for setting up a generic foot switch (because the original kit has the switch already integrated and you don't have to wire it up at all)....when the pedal is switched off, the sound passes through just fine....when on, it is basically silent unless I turn my 50 watt amp almost to the max and then you can hear the sound in the background just barely.....but with a loud hum over it....and the sound is not being effected by the effect itself, still sounds like the clean tone. I do have one last idea I am going to try in just a few minutes. If it works, I will post an update, if not....I will just try to find another guide for a fuzz face that has every part in the schematics/plans so there is no guesswork. This is my first pedal build, but I have circuit bent a lot before.

there is an almost endless amount of info available online regarding the proper way to wire up a bypass switch. Also videos, layouts, schematics. You should research this throughly. just google, "how to wire up a bypass switch for guitar effects". you'll literally get thousands of results.

Just to be clear: this is a *second* fuzz face that isn't working?  The first is working fine?  So did you check the second one was working before you wired it up?  Could be that it's nothing to do with the footswitch wiring.  (BTW, I've been using the Tonepad wiring diagrams since forever.)

think also of how you wired the jacks. make sure you have a connection to each of the sleeves, and make sure you have tips connected as signal, not as grounds.
