More testing last night, traced things to the NE570 compander chip.  The input into it looks fine, but pretty much no output (pin 7).

Don't know enough about these chips to say whether I should just replace it, or if one of the ins/outs on the chip or surrounding components would control that output other than the input.  I was doing some reading and it seems pin 1, the cap, controls the attack time but I would assume I'd still get output.

Thoughts?

PS - I did order replacement chips just in case

Finally got in the NE570 compander chip yesterday.  Removed the old one (managed to pull a pad), put in a socket, and put in the new one and...

It now works perfectly!    8)

Thanks everyone for your help, I really appreciate it!

Hi, I too am working on a BOSS RPS-10 with the same issue.
Are you sure it was the comparator that was the issue?
Looking at the service documents it states the Comparator Chip is an NJM311D.
The NE570N is a noise reduction chip.

Welcome.

'570 is an audio compressor/expander (compander).
'311 is a old favorite all-purpose voltage comparator. Nobody else in this thread has mentioned the comparator.
