Tube amp filament wiring

Hi,

I'm building a Bassman AA864, and I've chosen to wire the filament close to the chassis instead of "flying" over the tubes like Fender did.

Another question: I'm thinking of wiring the power tubes first ( coming from PT ), before the pilot light. I'll use AWG 18 for the power tubes, and AWG 22 for the preamp tubes and pilot light.

Is this a good idea? What do you think?

Any advice would be appreciated.

22awg might be too small but it'll work, you can measure any drop. I use 20 solid because i have a big spool.

You might get a more complete response on an amp-oriented board, like Music Electronics Forum's amp area.
That said, I have to ask: why? Leo flew the heater wires above the chassis for a very good reason, like twisting the wires, to minimize induced hum in the signal circuit from the AC in the heater wires. Why would you move them down into the same plane as the signal circuit? Are you planning to rectify and run the heaters on DC?

It sounds like a fine idea to me. 18AWG is inconveniently heavy for preamp tubes, so you have made a good choice.

Location is totally fine. Just use 18awg all the way through
