Hi, can somebody tell me which of them are more heavy ??? I've ear the obsidian at full drive but not the blackfire. If someone have a sound sample of the blackfire at full drive just let me know.

Thanks

and NO...
yes they both sound best pretty heavy, [IMO, settings wise]
I like the BF for the way it crunches chords with My Guitar/Amp setup.
You know [have a glimpse tleast] what an Obsidian sounds like, [Sound Clip] you'll should build one to find out what it feels like.
Both are relatively easy to get going as high gainers go.

The Black Fire has fewer parts and should be easier, if that is of importance to you.  The BF is one of my top 3.  It has been reported that it is more touch sensitive than the Obsidian and the Obsidian more Fuzz Face like, but I haven't built one.  The BF rocks.   8)

Is what I remem the Obsidian doing amazingly for me.
I haven't had the Obsidian for a long time, but definitely a compression type thing happening, even softly picked single notes tend to sound LOUD.
This is great fun for playing leads IIRC.
My Obsidian was 'hanging garden' [cough cough. excuse me, I perf now Ansil...lol] and not the most trustworthy item...it had to get scavenged. Actually I got PCBs hopefully in the mail this week...!!!
You can look and read the reviews ^^ on the BF and OBsidian

lol..  yes i know my signature.. lol    its true though, but i have to say that of all the perfboard smallbear is the best.  it isn't as thick as my crappy ratshack board.  speaking of ratshack i may be workign there.  so tell us pete where did you get your boards.???

petemoore

I don't see how any problems with RS boards...
I don't really mind if someone does have a prob with RS perf, cuz I'm pretty sure I won't [unless it 'changes].
I did some on This other stuff I got from NTE, but I could hardly cut the stuff !!! I had to like gnaw on it with the end cutters...RS stuff just snaps easily at the row I pick with the end cutters...
I ordered some PCB's from Tonepad, Im sure they're easier to wire up correctly for a [this would be a Small Stone], which [IMO] wouldn't be a wise choice to tryand Perf...I perfeda phaze90 though and was only crosseyed for like 2 days...lol

I haven't heard or built an obsidian, so I can't compare.  However, I was very impressed with the Blackfire's ability to respond to both pickup, volume control, and tone control changes on the guitar.  A lot of pedals don't do that.  The BF is controllable enough from the gutar that I don't mind having no EQ/tone control on the box itself.

My Blackfire has a ton of treble, and not a lot else. It may never come off my bench. I was able to modify the Obsidian(transistor) tone control to have a much wider range of treble cut so I was able to use it live with a great deal of success. I think comparing the two circuits for heavy soundingness, I'd have to go with the Obsidian. The Blackfire almost sounds "bluesy" to me.

Built one BF and one OB stage and put them together.

Isn't that the way Joe has drawn up the latest Transistor Obsidian? I may try that.
