above is the one to go i know but...pricey.

aron

I have used both. The weber sounded way better to me.

I responsed in the other thread about the Weber.

so aron, there are two different dummy load products from weber:

this

and this

which do you think is the better one?

aron

I would think the MASS ... BUT... I should point out that I have heard passive attenuators that sound better than reactive ones.

The Trainwreck Air Brake comes to mind.

What is the goal here ? A power attenuator, a dummy load, or just something to experiment with ? If all you need a dummy load then that can be built easily enough. If its a power attenuator then there are other designs which are easier to build that give similar results.

well, i am buying a peavy delta blues which is 30watts and she is too loud for practicing. even with volume level on 2 it would torture the neighbours.

yet the real tube caricature of the amp starts shining at  volume level 4 or so which is "call the police level" for neighbours.

the idea is lowering the overall heared volume level but doing this without cutting the load on the tubes in order to keep the amp sounding still tube (loud tube amps sound like ordinary solid state amps when you turn the master volume all way down...they have to be pushed a LITTLE bit in order to get that particular tube sound).

so, with a power attenuator it would be possible to achieve the desired result which is real tube caricature at "neighbour friendly" levels.

i know that the speaker also needs some push in order to achive this but pushing the speakers with a tamed signal (the attenauter would do this) must be a lot better than pushing it directly from the tubes. at least there is the possibility of reducing volume a bit but still having the amp relatively cranked.

this is why i need such a unit.

i think.

which would be better for a 100W amp, the thd or the weber?  My freind has a 100 watt amp, and needs an attenuator for it.
