Does anyone know a good way to remove the output jack of a Telecaster?  Trying to loosen it using the 1/4" drive and socket (like I do with every other guitar in the known universe) only causes the jack to spin around, but not loosen.

TIA!

Hey Phil,
this operation can drive you nuts sometimes, I know. The easiest way is to remove the metal plate with the controls and put it aside, leaving all wires connected (if possible !). Now you should be able to put a finger inside the cavity of the jack or try to put a small pair of pliers inside to hold the inner part of the jack. Now you can loosen the outside metal washer with a 1/4" drive and socket.
If everything fails (eg. because of rust, glue etc.) you can buy a special tool for this operation from www.stewmac.com

Thanks, that got it :)  I was able to work my finger into the cutout and hold it in place while I loosened the jack.  This guitar was brought in for some repairs...it's not a real Tele, but a "Lyon" Tele ripoff.  It ended up needing two new control pots and a new output jack.

Thanks!
Phillip
