fish, you can use a 46 and 10 ohm resistor in series to get 56 ohms. Series looks like this:

A--------=====-----------B A ---------=====------------B

Where A of the first resistor goes to the board, B connects to A of the second resistor and B of the second resistor goes to the board.

There is a snippet on wiring pots here:

Hey guys, I'm trying to add a pot for volume, to match output and such.  If I use a 100k ohm linear or audio, I get no sound for much of the travel of the pot, and then a very narrow usable range at one end of travel.  What value pot should I use, or is that not the problem?

no, you're right.  It sounds like the value of the pot is the problem.  Instead of 100k (100,000) use a 500 or 100 ohms pot.  It just needs to be one thousand times smaller.

Good luck.
