anybody tried this? would it blow my tube amps output transform out or work?

i want to try it but i am afraid to.

If Randall Aiken designed it you're good to go!

I've built many power attenuators and as long as they are properly built your amp will be okay. How they will sound is another matter.

The biggest things to making sure your amp will be okay is the resistive load on the output and how much power that load can handle. As long as those two conditions are met your amp will be fine.

tonegod what do you think about the schematic on aiken website? is it fine? my amp is a peavey delta blues and it is 30 watts. would that circuit be ok for it?

and do you think that it would sound good? i appreciate if you have other schematics that you suggest.

thanks mate.

Its an interesting read. It will work taking into account that you make sure your impedence is correct and the parts can handle the load. The example values given are intended for the simulation of 16ohms. Check the impedence for your amp and adjust if needed.

Soundwise I don't how it would be. To be honest I never liked the sound of dummy loads no matter what it is be it resistive, inductive, or reactive. It also depends on how you use your amp. If you drive the amp hard for distortion then it won't be that nice. If you use your amp clean to make pedals louder then its a good option. This is of course just my opinion.

My attenuator is not really intended for performance use although it tough enough. Its a piece of equipment that simulates a speaker well enough for me to workon and test amps. Its kinda beastly too.

The schematics section has a bunch of other dummy load circuits. Check that out.
