how many of you guys put led indicators on pedals, even though you would have to be clinically insane to not be able to tell that its on, like a metalzone, or an octavia?

just curious, and mind you i have put indicators on octavias in the past.

Not only are the LEDs good for letting you know if it's on or not, but where the heck it's at!!!

I can imagine it being difficult turning it on or off in a dark room or with lights flashing in your face.

I have these seven segment LEDs that I was thinking of using as an indicator. It would say "on" and "by" respectively. Haven't come up how it would work yet.

When I built my Ge FF and Rangemaster, I decided to go *old school* and use PNP pos. ground/ no LED/ no adapter. Since then, I have *modernized*, and used things like 3PDTs, LEDs, and pulldown resistors on all my pedals. The FF and RM are the only ones where I hold to the almost superstitious belief in the PNP/ Pos Ground/ No LED/ Carbon battery mojo as integral to the sound. Even been thinking of putting an 3PDT/ LED in the Rangemaster lately. As obvious as an individual effect may be, it can be very useful to have an LED when you are playing live. Yes, you can tell by the sound your Octavia is on, but that can be an embarrassing realization three beats into a tune that doesn't call for Octavia

The point of indicators to me is that you can tell they're on without having to go "SKRONK" with your guitar.

I like to know if it's on before I play. Makes sense to me.

I don't put leds in my stompboxes.
At the moment I don't need them, i should buy 3P2D switches and they are too expensive or I should build a Millennium Bypass... but I'm a bit lazy...
I can add leds later, now I prefer to concentrate on improving my projects (and in building new circuits, of course)

At first I didnt put them in because just getting the basic circuit working was so exhilerating in that it it overruled the necessity of having the led or a switch.I didnt have the money for stompswitch etc......Secondly because I beat the system [at least in my own mind]by not having to run out and buy the next new dist. pedal that I never had the money for anyway. But now I am rethinking it and reasoning these things in a different way.I just build thecircuit/input/output/and9 volt power connector/put in box.If you think about it you can build your lineup less 3pdt/less led. ..Spend the money and time on a truebypass board that has led and qaulity foot switch. Why put switch and led in both. Build the board that will hold your boxesand put them in or take them out as necesity demands....Afetr saying all that yes if the money wasnt an issue all the time then I would be probably plucking down money on qaulity foot switches. But I am gonna build the board and follow through with my own advice.

I even added a blue led to my little gem! LED's are just too cool not to use!

you would ned two of them but i do have a schemtic floating around if i can remember where it is.

if you have the pdf of the segment schematic send it to me and i will draw it up again.  its a handfull of resistors.

Just take a 3pdt, wire the one battery wire to the middle pole of the LED pole/throws [the three switch lugs 'left over']...put one color LED on one side another color on the other [each with an R on them...] Never tried myself/Gotta work though./? ...!
Convention creates following, following creates convention.

You should also use a current limiter resistor (1k...10k depending on the type of led).

I burnt all my dad's LEDs once when I was little, with a DC power supply. Somehow running 4 amps through a LEd is a bad idea
I don't like Holland. Nobody has the transistors I want.

i emailed it to munky. to see if he would post it..

munky post.  yeah.........

Yeah, that's it. I have a few of these from taking old CB's apart. I'm gonna get started on that now. Thanks Ansil & Munky
