LM386 / LM380 trouble. Ansil?

Hello all

I'm starting out on an ambitous project (after only making a few pedals) to make a small stereo amp. I'm allready getting the stereo bit sorted out, but now the 2 amp stages.

Ansil had some schemmo's for a LM386 - LM380 amplifier, can't find 'em though... But I'm wondering if I could first preamplify the signal with the 386 and then really increase the volume with a 380 chip. And also, the LM386-N1, is that a 6volt chip, or a 4 to 12v chip, because the info I'm getting from the web is contradicting itself. :?
I don't like Holland. Nobody has the transistors I want.

If you want a simple low Watt amp, see if you can get hold of a TDA2822 chip.  It's stereo, requires hardly any parts and is designed for battery use.  3V supply will allow you to drive headphones, 9V will provide 1W into 8 Ohms per channel.

:D that makes it easier... Now to get hold of it :?

I bought 2 chips that the guy at the store said were very similar but had only 325mW outputs. I'm gonna breadboard a little gem II with a few of my own mods right now! :)

The order code for the TDA2822M is UJ38R.  Do a 'product search' for it on the site and you can order one.  They cost £1.49, which is about 2.12 EUR.

I'm pretty sure Maplin do international orders.  They're not my first choice for components, but sometimes there's no other choice...

I agree with gez if you're looking to make a stereo (or even just a mono amp). The TDA2822M is generally better behaved than any 386.
