Fixing a DOD switch

What exactly is it that goes bad oin these FX-series pedals switches that makes them quit working?  I tried takeing one apart last night and did find a loose wire I reconected it but it didn't help at all, is it the switch itself?  Any ideas on how or what to replace it with?
Nice place you've got going here been just reading and learning for awhile, as soon as something I build actually works 100% I'll be sure to post some pics.

yes some times the little switches go bad in them.. personally i just replace it with a real switch
