I was looking in the latest Musicians Friend Catalog and they have a
Danelectro Dj20 Rocky Road Spinning Speaker(rotary speaker simulator)
advertised for $19.99.  Has anyone heard of this and is it worth buying?

Also the Boss DS1 is $39.99
Boss SD-1  is also $39.99

For twenty bucks its not the sort of thing you buy taking its "pristine-condition resale value" into consideration.  For twenty bucks, its the sort of thing you buy with aspirations to monkeying around and getting something different.  Presumably, it is going to be some sort of ultra-simple phaser-like circuit with their version of a Geofex LERA, and you know enough about each of those to make them do tricks.  Hell, if I could easily order stuff from them in Canada, I'd get one for that money.

yeah, i used to have one.

they actually sound pretty good for what it is....

with that said:
they are very cheaply made and the buttons are too
close together.  you can switch fast and slow and on and off.
i had to really pay attention when i was switching speeds
because it was easy to turn off when you were trying to
hit the other button.....i used it on one song during a
section with a solo and it was really easy to mess it up.....

later i tried to take it from it's case and put it in a better one.
it uses momentary switches for both switches.....so i started
making the transfer, but it didnt stand up to switching it
to another case.  it's all surface mount technology as well.
everything is mounted on the pc board.

it's cool to mess tinker with, and for 20 bucks it's not a
bad deal, just dont expect it to stand up to road abuse.

I don't think they have anymore. I can't find it on the website.

I like mine.  If you go for it, be sure to do "the mod" as discussed in the Harmony Central reviews.  This made a big improvement.   It doesn't sound as good as my Rotosphere II  but it is alot of fun, and costs about $300.00 less.
The Danelectro effects I've listened to have been surprisingly good for the money (exception is their Hash Browns Flanger). My Chicken Salad does a good univibe imitation - just not as versatile as the Easyvibe.  I'm told the octave effect pedal sounds very much like original Octavias
Getting their effects into more sturdy enclosures seems do-able, and a good idea. Maybe someone on the forum has some experience doing this. I started to do this and got as far as making a workable footswitch housing out of a sawed-off fuseholder.  This could be mounted on a Hammond and you could use their switch/button pair so long as the 'travel' height of of the button to the board is fidgeted with.

also be sure to pick up a few of the ACC 1 footers with the order...only $2!  I just got an Arion phaser for $20, and I'm pretty happy with it...

and the DS-1 is always $40.  I dunno why they had it for 60 for a while.  I bought mine like 5 years ago for 40...always been the price.
