Hi All,

Anybody know of the JEN treble booster? Hard to find out much about 'em when doing a search. 34 years ago I had a T.B. (sounds like a terrible sickness) that did wonders. I suspect it was a Jen. I'd love to get one . . or at least get a schematic. Can anyone help?

Hello Hello-
I've never heard of the Jen TB, although there were A BUNCH of different TB's around back then.  Check Aron's schematics and schematics 2 sections onf this forum.  Since Jen and Vox were "kissing cousins" I'll bet the Vox TB would be the same thing.
Treble boosters are pretty easy to make and can sound great with a little tweaking.
Were you living in Australia at the time of this "sighting"??
Brian.

Yeah I was 15. I had something that looked very much like the attached. For some reason Vox doesn't ring a bell in this saga.
You say you've never heard of the Jen TB meaning you've heard of Jen products but not a TB? Perhaps they didn't make TBs . . . ?? I'd almost swear that what I had was a TB and not distortion  . . . . ??

Er . .. how do you attach a JPG here?[/img]

It looks exactly the same as the earlier vox TB and it's the same circuit that's everywhere...jen made them briefly like they did the tonebender when they bought out the surplus vox stuff from the original factory in Italia...

Hullo Hullo--
Right, I know about Jen products but never saw a Jen Treble Booster.
I figured anything that came out of the Jen factory would be close to or the same as the Vox stuff. Did you find the Vox schematic??
Treble boosters are finicky......they sound GREAT through cranked Marshall or Vox amps but maybe not-so-great through Fenders and some others.
HEY AMMSCRAY---about what era did Jen put out the treble booster??
Brian.

the truth is Jen was making the treble booster for Vox, in fact every Vox accessories except amps were made in italy for them (i think even the cheapmade  gadget Vox guitars, but i'm not very sure). The Vox Wha were made by Jen and the question is "was it an Italian or English design (or a Steedian/Lolobrigidian brainpool)?".

See some Jen pedals from the marvellous Jacques de Marseille at:

Dude, you need to go back and read some of the threads we've had that tell the whole history...the TB is of English "design" by Gary Hurst For Solasound, who at the time had their factory in Italy...they made pedals for Vox and Marshall there, as well as their own Solasound models...

Since Vox had no trademark or copyright, when Vox sales diminished and the company was on thin ice, it was easy for Jen in Pescara, Italy (no relation to Jennings) to snap up the rest o' the swag and continue to build them with no illegal infringement...that's it in a nutshell, do a search and you'll find the rest...

BTW the "Jen" crybaby wah (70-71 or so) used a different inductor and trannys than the previous Italian chrome-top 846 (1967-69)

2n2924?  Who was making them and using them back then?  Aren't the pasta penelopies famous for using their own stuff?  Mullards and Valvos and tungsrams in England and those SFT something anothers used in Italy.  My old lipstick t/b gadget has a 2n2924 and all Ceramic disk caps, some puke green and some orange.  Jack and battery hookup are made in Japan.  THey may have been replaced at some time or another.

My Jen made Playa Baby wah has parts from?
BC238B  made by Motorola, BC239C made by TFK.  Square Arco caps. Marquardt stomp switch. Fasel inductor, Icar pot.  Don't know if any of this helped.  I've never seen the inside of the square plastic jobs Vox t/b.

Ok this gonna remind my stupid blabbering side not to write totally inaccurate things about blurry souvenirs from latenight internet read-a-long. I guess have long hair doesn't make you a R&R star or a R&R techie...

Sorry, can't help being blond!

Hey BG cool! The 2N2924 came in the vox treble booster, and also the original rare vox distortion booster from 67...no, not the current vox pedal (obviously)

TFK is TeleFunKen...the SFT's (Vox germanium tonebender) were actually UK-made, not Italian...Jen made wahs for everybody, besides their own, such as Gretsch, Dallas Arbiter, etc...and all of them had minor differences as far as trannys and cap-type...different fasels as well, white, yellow, red, red and white, purple, etc...
