the ea tremolo req 3 1uf film caps. Very large. What about using 1uf electro's or 1uf np electros. Would that change the sound any in a bad way? All opinions welcome. Or what about some tant's?

The radio shack 1 uf's are big. If you want to use metal film, Digikey's P4675-ND is a small metal film 1uf that will fit in tight spots. It's perfect for replacing the non polorized 1uf electros in the TS-9.

If you can find them (Mouser has them), monolithic caps might be a good bet.

I think the 1uF's in the EA/Anthony Leo tremolo are in the oscillator part of the circuit, so the sound doesn't actually pass through them.

It might work o.k. with electros, but... Maybe there is good info somewhere about caps in oscillators and related... I am not a scientist

I think three oscillator caps need be somewhat matched, not precisely but thereabouts. Some electrolytics have quite a large tolerances (20...50 %) and if you unluckily have it too much there may be difficulties or instabilities so the oscillator may not oscillate.

Usually for timing purposes in one shots, timers, envelope detectors in synth/effect and compressor/limiters low leakage cap is needed. Electrolytic types are worse in this phenomenon

Although they're not that easy to come by, I manage to get 1u resin dipped ceramic (usually the biggest value is .47u) which are really tiny.  The tolerance is pretty good and I've used them in basic oscillators.

As has been pointed out, the 1u caps are in the LFO section so won't affect the sound of the cirucit.

The 1uF caps on the EA tremolo at Runoffgroove are elctros.

I get these really tiny blue caps, they're like 2mm by 3mm for 0.1uF. I did use 1uF electro's for the EA tremolo, didn't use up that much space at all!
I don't like Holland. Nobody has the transistors I want.

Anyones thoughts about using tantalums for the 1uf's or non polarized 1uf's. It looks as though its being built with films and/ or polarized electro's.

Hi Jimbob,

Don’t use tantalums where there is a chance there might be a reverse voltage applied. They die very quickly. They are best used in the power supply to reduce ripple and impedance of the power supply.

The non-polar electrolytics can be used anywhere a standard electrolytic can be used as long as its voltage max is not exceeded. They also last much longer if they are not stressed by a voltage close to their max.

For hi-fi I used to bypass the electrolytic caps with quality film capacitors to greatly improve the high frequencies.
