just a quick transistor question

ive been looking at data sheets for the bs250 transistor and am confused. i know a transistor has a base, collector and emitter but the data sheets lable the three legs as D, G, S, which one is which?

Whatcha got there is a Field Effect Transistor.

Gate, Drain, and Source.

The gate is roughly equivalent to the base of bipolar transistors. Drain and source are similar to what you know as collector and emitter.

You can't just pop 'em in in place of bipolars, however.

oh rite ok... well thats got me all confused about transistors, but they are the ones the schematic uses so i give up tryin 2 undestand for now, jus pop em in n c what happens!

Remember that pinouts do differ, and that FETs (JFET MOSFET, whatever suits the application) are very different from bipolar transistors.
