I blew my trusty radio shack DMM.  In a pinch I installed a .5A fuse in the 63mA slot and then did what I always do which is to test for voltage with the DMM set to Resistance.  Now, after double checking the fuses, I can't read resistance any longer.   I must have fried in internal component.  cry:

I might go ahead and get another radio shack DMM, but if any one is aware of any current specials for a good DMM under 100 bucks I'd be very thankful!

There are MANY good options under $100.

www.techbuys.net is one source; I got a DMM from there (TM-104) that can read hfe and capacitance for under $30.

The only quibble I have with it is that the transistor checker socket is fussy. Still does the job, though.

If you can put together a $50 order from Circuit Specialists, they'll throw in a nice meter for free: http://www.circuitspecialists.com/level.itml/icOid/190

I plan to get one from them in this way some day.

I have seen no DMM at Radio Shack I would want to own at half the price. Most of theirs don't do hfe.
