Building a FuzzFace - couple of questions

Hi, I'm going to build a FuzzFace, and I have a few questions about it.

1) Is  PCB-board correct? (I made it, just want to check and see if it's right before I get it made. It's just a rough sketch.)

(Using this schematic: http://www.geofex.com/Article_Folders/fuzzface/fftech1.gif )

2) The AC128 seems very unstabile, or hard to get a good one. Is the AC188 a good replacement option?

3) What capacitators should I use? (Ceramic, polyester, electrolytic...)

4) The output capacitator is 0,01F, but I found a schematic for the FF on another site aswell, it was the same except for the output cap, which was 0,1uF. Which is correct ?

5) How do I make it so I can use it with an adapter ?

6) I want an on/off LED (3PDT switch), where is the LED placed? In the circuit, or between two of the terminals (?) on the switch?

7) I was thinking of putting in a Tone-knob aswell. Would this work fine, or would it mess with fuzz? And should there be a resistor between the tone and vol ?

Heh, sorry for all the questions. Was a little more than I thought :P It's my first pedal, and I don't want to screw it up

Thanks!

check out the boutique fuzz face project on GGG - I think that has a lot of the mods you want to do - he also has a schematic on there for making it negative-ground (for use with a wall-wart)..

The AC188 is a fine substitute - as long as it's the right gain/leakage.. read the article on GEO for how to test trannies for Fuzzes.

hey X,

i'm workin on a same FFclone schemo.
it's on a breadboard, not wired.

don't know bout the AC128/188.
i'm using a .1mfd--that's point1microfarad 4 output cap.
larger the cap, more low freqs.

i'm using some old GE Ger trannys.
used the Hfe function on my DMM and got 50.
thought i read U needed Hfe of 120 to 150(?)

pumped it with a 1Vpp sinewave;scope says i got signal out,
but i'm varying the output Rs 2 increase output level.
don't know what the output wave should look like.
it's *definitely* fuzzy.
changing ratio of Rs on collector of Q2 will increase output level.
have some AC188s 2 try in a few dayz.

the 20mfd on the 1K wiper IS the tone control.
makes peak on rising edge of waveform.

2run on 9v pwr supply, just get polarity correct.

Technology of the FF
Just thought Id throw that in there in case you haven't checked...runoff groove and other places also have necessary FF info.
Convention creates following, following creates convention.

Thanks!

Markb, what site is that? project ggg ?

I've read the article on geofex. (was where I got the schematics)

I don't have a DMM though, never heard of it before actually.. I only have a volt/ampere meter.. maybe there's some DMM's at school, I'll ask on monday..

Look under Effects Projects -> Distortion -> Fuzz Face

DMM=Digital Multi Meter.
Your basic voltage and current meter with a numerical display (as opposed to needle-and-scale). Usually more bang for the buck than the old analog ones, plus a lot more handy features (like transitor testing, frequency, capacitance, etc).
Get one - you won't regret it.
As far as the GEO transistopr test is concerned, your voltmeter will do!
