Hi I'm looking for a nice theremin unit that can be controlled with a couple or more pots and switches. I don't want to build one of the normal hand waving ones. Any ideas? It would have to be able to plug into my guitar amp through my effects!

if you just want noise and a steady note once in a while, and not play melodies, i suggest you build a fuzz(face) (which you can add to your board as well) and add a feedback loop to it.
turn the fuzz on -> nice fuzz tone
turn the feedback loop on (using a simple SPST) -> theremin-ish action

or hey.. just build a feedback loop and put your existing pedals into that - that'll give your major control over the "theremin"-tones.

Build a simple oscillator and control the rate, i.e. pitch, with a wah foot treadle.

Look online for optical theremin, lumivox, or photo theremin. Also check out a 555 circuit that will generate tones. For the optical ones, replace the photocell with a pot, voila. Also if you can find an lm3909 led flasher chip which are not discontinued, you can build one using one of those as well.

Just use a 555 sound generator and put a pot to control the pitch. I think in the 555 datasheet there's a schematic.

I discovered that a dunlop crybaby acts somewhat like a theremin when you plug the guitar backwards... then the thread of the pedal aswell as the pot in the guitar control the pitch... wierd!

cheers!

Yeah, the crybaby also works well as a "theremin" if you put it in the feedback loop of an op amp.
