Hi,
   I posted this question yesterday but  didn't get a resonse.I  know if you run resistors in series you add the values up, and you can do the same with caps in parallel.Does that mean face to face like this , ()() ,for the caps?  Does this go for polarized ,non-polarized ,or  both?

Parallel means side-by-side, not back to back. If you put caps in series you get:

1/Cequiv = 1/C1 + 1/C2 +1/Cn
You then use (1/Cequiv)^-1 if I'm correct to get the equivalent value of the series caps. The same is true for resistors in parallel, use the same formula.

Same is true for polarized caps, just have them point in the same direction. If you use two 2uF polarized caps with the -ends soldered together you get a 1uF NP, that value is halved because the caps are in series, and two polarized caps back to back make a non-polarized ;) These are handy things to know.
