I decided, at nine am, that i was going to build a Si NPN fuzz face (From GGG).  no idea what prompted this, i just felt like it.  so, through the breaks in my day, when i wasnt doing dishes, showering, or pulling feathers out of a dead chicken (i hate being a country boy), i built this little baby.
usually, when i do a build, i get all anxious and excited when i turn it on for the first time.  didnt even really care this time, actually.  i plugged it in, and then turned on the amp.  i thought my amp was f'ed up, til i realized my switch was on in my Fuzz.  Fairly nice.  Needs to be put on a better board, as its in cardboard.
A question though:  its not very bright, anything to remedy this?

BTW, sorry for the long post, i haven't posted or built in awhile.

Hi.  Si fuzzfaces are usually known for being fairly bright, so yours is a bit of a surprise.  Simple solution is to lower the input cap until you cut enough bass to make the top end sound brighter.  A more complex alternative that I've tried and liked is to add a bigg muff tone section and final gain/output stage.  That gives excellent control and when set to about the 2 o'clock position really emphasis the highs.

good luck with it.

For greater FF brightness, you can also lower the value of the volume pot to 100K.

Before you change anything, though, can you measure the voltage on the collector of Q2? Should be between 4.5 and 5V.

Si FF should be plenty bright as it is!

you also may want to try and use the output volume control not as a volgare divider, but connect the ground to the wiper, and resolder the wire that went to the output jack to the opposite lug, connecting it with the output from the capacitor. the increase in volume would be sharp, but you may like what you hear in terms of frequencies distribution.

thanks, guys, im not sure on the Q2 voltage, my dad's got the DMM, and he's in LA right now.  I'm using this awesome ancient signal booster case for the box, so i can't wait to get it all remedied.  What Trannies do you guys recommend for Si?  I've got 2n3904's in this baby right now, but ive got some random npn switch trannies lying around, so lemme know.  thanks again for the responses
