i built the bmp and it kindof sound like s... i can't seem to get a very usable tone out of it... i'm using 5088's in it.. i tried a few other things but it didn't seem to make a difference... it just is so muddy and really noisy... i even changed the input cap to a .047 and the cap before the tone circuit to a .01 instead of .1, it cleaned it up a little with the bass but even with the tone all the way to the treble side it's so wuffy and not very treblely at all..

I have the Russian Bmp and changed all the trans to 5089--sounds alot better, though i think i lost a little sustain--more of a heavy metal effect not..hmmm not bad!!  good luck!

Did you include the 100k resistor on the base of Q3  to ground? I had it on mine and it sounded supper flubby. Without it, it sounds awesome

marrstians

yeah... i tried taking the 100k off and i don't think it did a whole lot.. i even took a diode out to see if it'd mellow out.. nothing... damn

dude, i had a factory bmp and it was the most muffled pedal
i came across.  i did all of the mods to it as well, and it still sounded
muffled and bad.  not my cup of tea at all.

Your description makes me think that there's something wrong with the tone control build.
