I'm really going to kick myself now :x I tinkered a bit and with trial and error I've found out that two of my (72-pin) SIMMs didn't work. So much for the memory error  :) Right. Now for the keyboard ;)

Hal, once again you forget that without a keyboard I am never going to get into the BIOS, let alone change settings ;) Leema's helping me out with an adapter for that socket, I hope the problem that Peter (Snowberg) mentioned doesn't rear it's ugly head.

oh yeah this is my post!  i happen to be the king of ancient machines.  I have still have my 8086 (pre pre pre 80286).  its a beauty. 2 color cga video, 0.5MB ram, no hard drive (who had hard drives back then), single sided disk drives...i think it clocks somewhere around 5mhz.  doesnt even meet the requirements for later versions of dos i think i have version 3 or 4.  good times.  anyway you probably have it all fixed by now but id put the money in my pocket in that all you need is the adapter to make keyboard probs go away... those plugs were the standard for a long time.

You're right. A mate of mine had one lying around, I bought it off him for a sandwich. Now I can't get the friggin network adapter working. The TCP/IP stack doesn't initialize... But that's a different story ;)

Quote from: HalI love how the BIOS says "keyboard error...press F1 to continue"  The irony is genius.  I bet the guy who came up with that was some sort of sadist.
Probably the same guy who makes me click the "start" button in WIN98 when I want to STOP!... but I better not criticise computers in fron tof anyone called HAL  :D

2001: A space oddysey..... That was a good story.

Linux is even worse, a buddy of mine used it and it sayd something like "No keyboard detected, are you using a PS/2 keyboard? Y/N"

All that comes from being behind a PC for too long ;)
