I did a search, but really couldn't dig anything up in the archive.

I am a newb and would like to finally learn how to read a schem and start building circuits.  I have done a bunch of rehousing and made a few loop/feedback loop boxes.  I have alot of skills as far as drilling boxes and presentation, but need to get into the meat and potatoes of circuits finally.

Any links to tutorials (even online courses) would be appreciated.

thanks

how do you mean "read" a schematic?  Do you recognise circuit symbols such as resistors and caps etc?

As for instantly understanding the operation of a circuit by glancing at the schematic... well... put it this way; I've been studying 15 hrs/week for the last four years, working as a repair technician full time, doing my own hobby stuff at home... and I'm still learning.

For the stuff we do around here, you need a good grasp of transistors, amplifiers, filters and switching circuits.  http://www.tpub.com/electronics.htm is one place to start!  Here's some more; http://www.allaboutcircuits.com/  http://www.epanorama.net/index.php

you should check out this beginner project. It'll run you through just about everything you'll encounter while building electronics....

"Sticky 2" applies specifically to schematics.

Thanks!

Anyone else have any helpful links or tutorials?

Check out the DIY  FAQ at the top of the page. It's a really good place to start.

just a note
"Reading" schematics is the ability to look at a schematic and describe in detail how the circuit works.
"Tracing" schematics is relating the schematic diagram to the actual physical circuit. To trace a circuit you must be able to identify components and read their values, or device numbers and you must also know their circuit symbols.

Yeah, I guess I should look to see what is under my nose.   :)

Thanks JPL.  I recognize you from HCEF.  I will check out that London Power book.
