noise sources in pedals...

hey everybody,

i've recently been playing my dist+ and bluesbreaker together a lot, and have found that despite the Dist+ giving out much more distortion, ive found the bluesbreaker is a lot noisier with higher gains.

in my pedals i have an assortment of metal film and carbon film resistors, and electrolytics/metal film (the little yellow boxes)/greencaps(red ones at that  )...

ive swapped through different IC's and despite trying an opa2604, i could hardly (if at all) tell the difference between it and a few different 4558s TL072s and LM358s (i think).

i thought that the difference between the caps and resistors may have been the difference - so i'd like to experiment with different types.

what i would like to know is what the most important components in any circuit are for reducing hiss, and noise. and also if anyone has specific components from the BB circuit (tonepad version). The noise is currently what a high gain pedal sounds like when gain is maxed and you dont play - but the pedal isnt really that high gain...

thanks for any input
