do make it always stay on? Anyone know the cb location?

Thanks!

A source follower at [or very near] the input. I think there's a schematic of DS-1 at Fuzz Central.
What do you want to take it out for? From what I read it's sort of a job to true bypass a Boss.

I'm actually wanting to rehouse it, for fun! :D

Sounds like alot of work to me.
I'd build one and tweek or mod it, and box that. Probably not much more trouble than rehousing that one.
That said, sounds like fun as you say, but I've never had call to explore that particular territory [Jfet bypasses].
I like them personally, you get free buffering just by having that pedal in the chain, and they drive cables etc., don't tone suck [so's I'd notice anyway].
I'd be worried about ending up 'without'.

You want the DS-1 to stay on? Is that what your asking?

the actual designation for the transistor i don't have at the moment

If the schem I have is numbered correctly, remove and jumper Q6.  It should be an SK30-A.  Remove but don't jumper Q7.
