Good CMOS inverter distortion...?

any suggestions?  I'm placing a mouser order soon, and wanna get a couple of inverter to play around with...anyone have some schematics and part numbers ?

I have a NTE4049, the specified replacement for a CD4049UVBE...
 Will the NTE4049 work in the 3 Legged Dog?
