Just ran across this book. Jazz-oriented but it seems cool.

I ordered a copy so I will let you guys know how it is.

Looks and sounds interesting, Aron. I've noticed how jazz players (Metheny et. al.) play very vertically, up and down the neck. I've always been intrigued by that and frustrated by the box patterns I always fall into. Maybe this is the book for me? :D

BTW: JAZ used to hang out at Ampage from time to time.

Must be. THat's the connection Fuchs I guess.

I'm really interested in the book. His 14 year old is quite impressive for having played only 1 year.

Hmm, I'm eagerly awaiting your review, I've started working on legato stuff, but I don't know what I'm really doing. This book sounds interesting.
I do remember JAZ from alt.guitar.amps. He seemed like a real nice guy there, although not immune to GAS.

Shit, I went for it and ordered the book. I've spent $30 SO much more foolishly. It does seem like a solid instructional book..

When I took lessons with Randy Roos back in the 70's, his approach was to simultaneously work on the vertical and horizontal approaches and have them gradually fuse into a *Big Picture*. Another book that uses the *one-string-at-a-time-solo* approach to learning this is "The Advancing Guitarist" by Mick Goodrick. I highly reccomend it.  I know JAZ from rec. music.makers.guitar, and was quite pleased when he told me he loved the track I contributed to the RMMG CD.

If I had the $30 lying around right now I would be as bad as both of you.

I see no reason to hold back. It looks like a good book and I need something  like this to work on, something to push me.

Maybe when I get back from vacation.
