What would be cool is to put all this amp simulations in one pedal and make it like an analog POD! 8)

I'm certainly thinking in terms of taking two of these emulators - probably the Supreaux and the Tweed - and putting them in one box with separate controls and an A/B footswitch for rhythm/lead selection. All that sound for only six JFETs...

Here comes the 'Supratweed'. Hang on, I think I once dated a girl named "Sue Pratweed" -

I mean, most peope don't even do DIY cooking! .
Funniest thing I've heard today.

OT, but I haven't "DIY cooked" for a week because my gas has been cut off, due to late bill paying.

I was actually thinking of that yesterday, but you posted first and beat me to it.... :D

I was thinking of something really ridiculous... Like building (how many of these emulators are there now? 5? 6? 8?) a bunch of them and putting them in one of R.G.'s steel studs. Make it long enough for all the knobs, bypass switches, LED's etc and you have an "amp rail" or whatever you want to call it. Probably need to re-think the power supply so you can run it off one battery or wall-wart or something.

Well, now that you have invoked RG, maybe a better approach would be to figure out the minimum number of JFET stages and components needed to cover those emulations and then have one of those PIC things that he seems to know how to apply to various and sundry problems to switch around values and create the various emulations on the fly.  Make a real analog POD with digital control--best of both worlds!  It could even have switchable cabinet sims--all analog.

Well, a man can dream, can't he?

Yeah, seems like we've literally invoked the spirit of R.G. since I see him posting now.... :D

The pic idea seems like a good one. I haven't made the transition into pic-land yet (seems too much like work)  and it's too complex for my interest/time right now. But I would think it's doable.

Incidentally I came up with a similar, less complex idea using a rotary switch, but it looked like such a wiring nightmare I shied away from building it.

Yes, I also thought of putting all in one box too!   But I was sort of waiting to see how many more might be designed.   I was also thinking of using a rotary switch.   Also, if there are any sections that are similar to each different schematic, can use those combinations to eliminate a few more wires.   Oh, I can smell the sawdust burning!!!

Peace and Thanks for the great designs!!!!

I just built a supreax on perfboard.
I use it with a Gibson SG that has humbuckers.
I get very little clean headroom (with SG's vol on full) and with the volume pot (supreaux) set low the output volume is lower than bypassed. I tried turning down the volume from the guitar but I have to turn it down a lot defore it cleans up (well dirtyish clean - but I like that - just would like it louder).
Have others got the same results?

Apart from the clean issue it sounds utterly wonderful.
With tone 50%, Vol 50% and output vol to match bypassed and i get
a beautifully expressive overdrive.

All drain voltages are set as according to the instructions on ROG and components are as specified except for 490k pots instead of 500k

Well Taz, there isn't much clean headroom on the amp they designed it with(I own one). Distortion starts happening real soon as you start to turn it up.

What FETs did you use?

Oh boy oh boy I gotta build at least 3 of these emulators!!! OK, gonna make a partlist right now.

This is gonna be fun!
I don't like Holland. Nobody has the transistors I want.

JDV: Thats what I suspected - my SG has quite high ouput humbuckers (modern not PAF types).

I would like to repeat that the supreaux sounds lovely to all of you that are thinking of making one - just do it.

I was originally thinking about building three emulators - 1 for clean, one for overdrive and one for lead but when i heard the supreaux I was inspired cos it's such a different yet very musical sound and hence my original question- I'm a vox man otherwise.

Sounds even lovelier with an orange sqeezer infront of it.
