It has twice the Forward Transfer conductance, so IMO you'd be better using all J201s.

Thanks Rick,
you've built one, did you have 5457's or did you use J201's throughout ?
I'm hoping it will sound FAB !
Cheers.

On this one I followed the layout completly. I used 2N5457s and J201s and it's a killer distortion and quiet too. If you take the gain all the way up there'e a little noise, but if you back it down just a hair most of the noise will disappear, but you'll still have plenty of gain. I know it's tough to wait sometimes but it's probably worth to go on and order some of those. There's a guy on eBay with them that I've been buying a lot of parts from lately with a good deal on 30. I'd jump on it if I were you and make this killer circuit sound right.

:D Nice one Rick !!!
Done, along with some J201's as i'm nearly out !.
I'll use him again, fair price for 30 eh? thats £2.50 in UK money.
The build has to wait, i'm touring in Europe with a band soon, so off to rehearse for a few weeks !!!!  darn it !
Your posts/experience are very much appreciated  :)
