Anybody tried using BF244s or BF245s instead of J201s ?
If yes what worked best: gain category A,B or C?

I have not tried any of those ROG-amp simulations yet, but used some fets in  some other experiments... BF245C is not good... or it might be that it is not that good when running on 9 volts.  A's could be better but I'm not sure as my local suplier does not have those. They have BF256A instead and it works but does note have huge gain but enough for some stuff. BF256 should be similar to BF245 (actually BF245 is newer replacement for BF256) so I guess BF245A could be usefull.

I built the thunderchief.
I tried o use the BF245A but could not get them working.Bias problem at Q3.

The ROG emulators are for in front of a preamp use. But I use my thunderchief as a preamp and go directly to the Poweramp. I removed the two Lowpass Filters to get enough treble.
They are no direct recording devices.

What a pedal!!

I got it ready and while a have some gain problem this pedal is superb. Lots of my fawe guitarists use dumble amp (carlton, ford, Johnson) and after i tried it the feeling was unbelieveable. I played this thing (not boxed yet) for hours (self made strat and Princeton reverb). Very nice harmonics. I like the feel of gain and clear sound together, hard to describe.
I do not get the gain of the wonderful soundclip of runoffgroove web site. I have now a 220pF between the volume and treble pots (should be 47pF i think) - i dont know if it is that that eats the gain.

Just wondering what kind of art works should be included to the box...hmmmm..i just want to play little more before i box this....

Thank You,
mat

:D Thank You Elektrojänis , Thank You Eddie!

I think I'll give the BF245A a try (it worked very well in the Mini-Booster) when I find the time for it. Still don't know if I'll go for the Umble or the Matchbox or ... All these Apms are nice!

Those clips sound fantastic and ... unique. Is it the tone stack that gives it that distinctive sound in the midrange? I've considered modifying the 'normal' channel of my super reverb to the dumble tone stack just for shits and giggles.

You could have called it - "Ever so Umble". I've a mind to try some "2N4302s I bought and never used - good enough for EH, good enough for me>

Hey guys, Fret Wire just pointed a mistake at the pcb transfer, which i have already corrected, and sent the new pdf to Brian at ROG.

My apologies  :(

Yep, it's the tone stack that does the mojo.  Be careful with the knobs, though.  They get hyper-sensitive at certain points.  It's not a pot taper issue, they just interact VERY much at different points.  You must tweak carefully to get the sound you want.  Sometimes it seems like the mid knob does nothing.  With other settings of the treble and/or bass knobs, the mid pot is overly active.  It's odd, but worth playing with, since it is so different sounding.  My vote is for you to modify that Super!  You can always change it back.

I'd love to see a simulation of a mesa boogie dual rectifier if you haven't done so already... :)

So am I to assume you use these simulators as an effect pedal?

How do you compensate for the preamp stage of the amp you are actually using???

Thanks...

I got the gain issue of the Umble solved with help from elektrojänis ! Big thanks to You  :P It was a .998k resistor in the input in place of 998k resistor (as my dmm shows them). I noticed the problem when turning the guitar volume from 10 to 9, then the volume dropped very quickly + the pedal did not work with other effects (wah,comp.). Now it works just wonderfully. I have to find somewhere those number scales for the pots to write down exact settings of the pots because this thing is hyper sensitive when tweaking the knobs. There are lots of good sounds hiding in there !!
Thanks again for the tip  :D  (suurkiitokset   )
