Several weeks ago I attempted the OS  from Tonepad. No luck- spent many nights working through the signal flow and could see no reason for the silence.
So I started a 2nd using the GGG layout- However I never finished it I left it in my 'unfinished' pile- because its easier on me to not finish than it is to fail- for several weeks. So I took a stab at finishing the GGG version tonight. I made a stupid mistake at first, found it, fixed it and now it works!
Its extremely subtle- hard to detect.  Both pots do as they should (I think) and I get some great tones. I hear it more when Im playing softly and its bringing me up more than I can hear it playing loudly and its bringing me down- did that sound like gibberish?

Anyway- Im off to play!

Sounds like you're Squeezing! What are you doing thes on? Perf?
 What Opamp are you using?
Can't be hard compression, but it's there, and more noticable at certain times like you mentioned, and sometimes a very nice accent to other effects. My Phasers like it!!!

Perf board with a 4558 from Smallbear- nothing special. Anyone use an OP275?

petemoore

4558's what I'm using. I like the tone of 'em...
Cracks up a bit if I wank hard on the low strings, but sure does sound thick sparkly and full for soft strummin' and finger pickin' etc.
Someone [   ] touts the OPA275 and the NE5532 for the OS, I haven't tried it, having very clean with closer to rail to rail operation probably would do nicely in the OS.  :D

I have the the OPA2134PA chip in my OS, it is very clean and doesn't crack up.  I use the OS for my acoustic primarily.  I have a second OS almost built, and wanted to test several chips side by side.  Has anybody else done this?

audioguy

I built this one specifically for use with my acoustic which has no on board preamp.

Hal

how does it sound?

I was thinking of building me one of these...

audioguy

Sounds great!  I havnt tested it as much as I would like to, but so far its fab.

I play twice a week with the acoustic and the the OS sounds great.  Sonically it adds a "warmness" and quite pleasant sound, not processed.
It feeds a EHx Small Clone reissue, which really likes the OS.  Playing single notes is at equal volume as strumming chords.

I use the OS in my electric setup too,  But I'm not really used to using a compressor, so it's taking a while to know when to compress and when not.

I have the the OPA2134PA chip in my OS also, it sounds good and doesn't breakup at all. I don't use it though. I don't need a compressor for the music I'm playing, it would limit my volume, & I simply must be the loudest thing on stage.........or I quit. :P

Boy, you guitarists are all the same.

I like my Orange Squeezer better now that I have the 2N5457s in it rather than the MPF102s. I generally don't use compressors, either, but I figured it would be good to have around in case I need one besides my Boss compressor. BTW, I like the OS better. It doesn't seem to whack my signal as hard as the Boss pedal does...

Of the 4 or 5 diff types of compressors i own- i like the OS the best! Nice and subtle. Than Dynacomp-Black finger-digitech (sucks!) ect...

Well on electric what's the big big hoopla about having to have compression?

The music I play changes dynamics and volume, also.  I find it's difficult too do with a compressor.

I do like the compressor sounds on the electric (at times) and the way it sounds on the acoustic (at times).  If I want to play loud on the acoustic b/c the song needs to be dynamic, I find the compressor "limiting". 8)
I think it's important also not to use the OS as a boost, but as a volume regulator.

BTW, I have 2N5457s in my OS.
