What is the preference.  The carbon resistors I use work great and I have never tried the metal ones.  Besides price what is the benefit of the metal resistors?

Hi.

Erm, I wouldn't call price a benifit of metal resistors. ;)

Anyhow the metal ones are more accurate (1% tolerance). They would be a
bit quieter (in terms of noise) in some cases (treble boosters, delays...).

For plain distortion just use carbons.
