Rangemaster pot problems (DC, I know)

Hey everybody

I don't have an issue with the crackly DC volume pot thing with Rangemasters, but the thing is anytime I try to use a regular pot it doesn't work. Always seems like a bad connection but there's not. Intermittent signal with tremendous crackling and noise. Thing only works if I use a little board-mounted micro pot. Has anybody solved this little riddle? I tried resoldering the connection with solid-core wire and nothing helps.

Thanks team

assume you've tried a brand new pot?

I've had pots making bad connections that were not due to my soldering skill (or otherwise!) Sometimes the internal connections of the pot are the ones at fault, and they only go faulty under stress.

Just the other night I had one that read perfectly when tested on a multimeter, but in circuit was intermittent and crackly when jiggled around. Ditched it for a brand new pot (thanks Mikeb) and voila!

I figured it's just impossible to see those very quick intermittent failures of the connections with a DMM - but very easy to hear it in an audio circuit.
