Scrambler question

Having built a scrambler and like the sounds from it.

However I noticed that the texture pot dosn't push things to the sonic extremes that the sound demos demonstrate. I don't get the ring mod & octave style sounds.

If it helps I was forced to use 3 MPSA14 and a 2N3914 (where I live I was lucky to get those) and used the JD Sleep version of the PCB layout. I accept that my transistor replacements may not be quite up to the job.

I have a Line 6 Spider 112 and a Korg Pandora 4, just incase you really need a decent amp to get the unique sound of the scrambler to turn up.

Is there any suggestions of mods or replacements that could give me access to the full tonal landscape of this little beastie ?
