I picked up some 1n279 diodes on a whim at Parts Express (whose warehouse is only 10 minutes from me).  I know they are ge, but I can't find any datasheet info for them.  I saw somewhere that someone was using 1n270 for distortion, and I assumed these were close to the same specs.

Does anyone know the characteristics of these, or at least point me in the right direction?

Thanks.

They're probly same same...
Check the clipping threshold with a DMM in diode checker mode.
Convention creates following, following creates convention.

I knew I forgot to mention something in there--I don't have a meter yet.

Thanks for the tip, though.
