Not sure if I have the heart to hack this thing up:

Thought the photos might be amusing though.  Fine German engineering.

Yeah, it was a post about these that prompted me to lug this out of the closet. They are all 24mm and very used. I'll get around to measuring them in a while.

Great variety of colored knobs!

so yeah, you've been sitting on a pot-and-knob goldmine, provided they're usable values... and are those rotary switches towards the middle, or just more pots?  (looks at pics of interior) ooo, rotary switches, and how...

and if the insulation on the 20,000 feet of hookup wire in there doesnt crack or otherwise fall apart when you try to move it, i'd prolly use that too  :P

guitarhacknoise

OH MY GOD!
So............. do you have any synth projects that you would like to tackle?
the pots are great, but if you strip that thing...............what about the housing?

That looks like a 4Ms  "WOBBLEATRON" already  !!
Just add the board in there !

There are a number of rotary switches, but besides the fact the things are friggin' huge, they are also rather brittle. The wire is in good shape, and there is at least a yard or two of coax. There is a little tin can IC (LM302H) mounted on one of the switches. I found it interesting that most of the pots are Clarostat/ Made In The USA, considering it's German equipment. It's too bad I didn't take some of the boards from this behemoth. The bottom part of the scanner had a few dozen boards loaded with late 70s - early 80s era parts. I kept one of the tube photo-multipliers for a souvenier. Always wondered what audio purposes one could be used for.

i gotta ask... when you say they were going to "junk it"... do you mean like, seriously just throw it in the trash?  i wonder how many things like this end up in landfills cuz they don't think its worth anything because its old.  when you consider the fact that it has like 10 dual concentric pots, which are up to 20 bucks a pop, suddenly the thing is worth more as parts than it was worth as a whole.  damn.  i really hope that one day i hit the jackpot walking by a dumpster or something...  ive spent too much on this already and im just starting out

I have seen a lot of stuff like this junked, and yes I do mean trashed. And that's just at the various graphic/ prepress shops I have worked at.

The concentric pots are 10k/10k (@ are *center tapped*) 24mm Clarostat. If anyone has suggestions on a good use for these, please let me know.

Man, I've salvaged a lot of junk in all the years I've been "into" electronics, from places I've worked and otherwise, but MAN! That is one helluva piece of junk!! Junk in this context meaning "GREAT FIND" Lest this be misunderstood.
